GIBSON ES 335 TDC, 1964 |
|
Cherry Red, Bigsby with "Custom-Made" placque. What a fantasic
guitar! All the typical features o the earliest post-PAF period, with early Patent Number
pickups, full nickel hardware, gorgeous
see-through cherry red finish, very strong and shiny, incredible one piece
mahogany neck with a dark rosewood fretboard and block inlays. Original
factory Bigsby with "Custom Made" placque which covers the
stop-bar studs: at that time the stop bar was still standard on the ES-335
and the Bigsby was offered as an option. ABR-1 tune-o-matic bridge with
nickel-plated metal saddles (not nylon). Original Kluson Deluxe double
line-double ring tuners. Every part is 100% original and
functional. Exceptionally fine conditions: the top is very very clean, with just a very light checking but almost no playing wear. Some belt-buckle wear on the back, which goes through the clear lacquer and reaches the red. Some honest neck wear, frets are original and have been leveled several times but are still very playable, no problems with bending in all the positions. Original Klusons were replaced at some point, as we can tell from the light signs of larger bushings on the headstock front (see pic) but there are no additional screw holes or different tuner-plate markings on the back of the headstock.. Original Klusons work fine. Probably the guitar was 'modernized' in the late 70s or early 80s with new tuners and by removing the nickel pickup covers, which were luckily kept and reinstalled later. So now every detail is perfectly original, with no removed or replaced parts. Excellent playability, perfect action, and THE sound that made Blues history, strong, warm, full of harmonics and sustain. You see Custom Shop's '64 Clapton reissues selling for $15.000, but this one is the real deal, the original 1964 ES-335 in 100% original condition and with the great sound these guitar ar famous for. Original Ess&Ess black case with yellow lining.
